Back to reality

Things since returning back to Melbourne have taken a toll for the worst.

Let me explain.

Before we left for Singapore, Aidan had his cot, he slept on his own, and though he may occasionally wake up in the middle of the night, he'd generally pop back to sleep after a little resettling, or if I'm too tired, I'd bring him into bed with me.

However, being pampered as such in Singapore, he got to STAY UP LATE (til 1am once!) when he had sleep-overs at my parent's. And he got cuddled and squished and patted to bed. He was literally LOVED to sleep.

But now that we're back and he's been promoted to his Big Boy Bed (Dada surprised us both with an ebay purchase), he can't/doesn't want to sleep on his own, he needs me to sleep with him, he needs the hall light on, he needs the door open, he needs he needs he needs! Sometimes I find myself squished diagonally in bed with him at 3am in the morning! (The other night, he rolled over and actually FELL OFF THE BED!! His only words were, "Mum! Where's my pillow?!")

Needless to say, I'm a grumpy mummy.

I'm hoping he'll adjust soon, it's been a week, but there seem to be some positive improvements. It's just that all the whining and negotiations we have before I can actually leave his room is really annoying!!

On another note, his toilet training seems to be taking a back seat with all these huge adjustments in his life right now (back from hols, new bed etc.) I've ordered a toilet training pack from the internet out of desperation, and I'm hoping it'll teach me how to properly train him!

*Fingers crossed!*

UPDATE: He went down for a nap on his own this arvo! WOOHOOO!!! Could be we spend quite a  bit of time together this morning playing and reading. Whatever it is, hope it continues!

On the eve of...

WOW. What an eventful day. It started with two rude men and ended with a nosebleed!

All this the day before his 2nd birthday!

Delivering the fruits and veg to GB, I was told off by the Irish gent (rudely I might add) to drop it off at the loading zone around the corner. And after deliveries was done, was sworn at by the guy blocking my exit in the loading zone for parking there. We got into an altercation, but suffice to say, I can understand why Fight Club members feel exhilarated after a bout. Feels good to blow off steam.

The rest of the day was uneventful (save for Aidan's THREE-hour nap), until after dinner when Aidan started jumping on the couch, and FELL OFF, hitting the glass coffee-table on the way down (landed on his fours though - good instincts!) and promptly burst into tears with BLOOD DRIPPING FROM HIS NOSE.

Yikes! The sticky red liquid soaked up tissue after tissue, and I had to yell up to Ellie for some help 'coz EG was out, but eventually he settled down, and was happy after some chocolate. His upper lip's a little swollen though.

My hope is that he learns from this, and not think of the incident as a performance he can repeat to get more chocolate.

That said, he's bouncing up and down on the couch next to me again. SIGH...

Growing so quickly

I think Aidan may have inherited the Soh hand-holding genes. It's a genetic predisposition that was present from day one - curling his tiny tiny fingers around one of mine, his little fist grasping on for dear life. Even now, his iron-grip is unrelenting as I lay him down to sleep in his cot - he fusses when I pull away, calms when my hand returns. What a cherished bubba. Just like his daddy, and his granny, both displaying generous affection with their loving hands. How warm, this family.

Some new updates! He's displaying his other lower front right-incisor, another little half-tooth to accompany his current one. Man, they are sharp, especially as he gnaws on my fingers to soothe his gums. Also, he's a super fast crawler! You should see the way he charges ahead to any object, especially power plugs and Wii remotes. That's when a firm, deep-voiced "NO, Aidan, stop!" is warranted, and he's actually learned to obey that command! He stops, looks at you, and as you beckon he crawls away or towards you. Other times, he cheekily checks my reaction before touching the forbidden object, ignores my NO, and that's when I have to get up and displace him in order to reinforce my command. I either place him in another part of the room, or in his playpen (without toys) - to which he protests loudly.

That's another new development; he's always enjoyed playing with his toys on his own in his playpen, but lately once he's in he starts to whiiiinnnneee and whiiiiiiinnnneee. I reckon it's 'coz he wants to be mobile and crawl around.
The cutest is when I leave him in his room for a bit to go down the hall and rinse his face-cloth in the toilet. Unable to bear my absence (aww, how sweet), he starts this half-crawl, half-cry slowly down the hall, his face screwed up pitifully. Like a puppy dog looking for its owner. Poor bubba! Either way, he's being very clingy, and with his fast-crawling action he manages to chase me into the kitchen while doing his signature hiccupy-whinge. Three seconds and he's there! Which could explain how he toppled off my bed this morning.

Gulp! Yes, ok! I'm sorry! I had to brush my teeth somehow, and he usually just sits there in the middle of the bed, but today he wanted to follow me into the toilet and even when I'd placed him on the floor earlier he just kept following me into the bathroom which has germs I tell you so I just put him on the bed which is waist-high off the floor and turned back to the mirror and the next thing I knew I heard a ker-plunk and I screamed and he was crying but more out of anger than of pain and when I picked him up he was ok and settled fairly quickly and there's no damage done so I'm not a bad mother ok?!

His nose is still a little red though.
